Happy 6 1/4, Kinley!
Well, since poor Kinley's birthday falls on December 30, it's always a little difficult to plan a party for her. I kept promising in January that we'd have one for her (and she told all of her friends...), so we planned a pretty untraditional "6 1/4 Birthday Party" for her. Six of her friends came over and we had some girly-girl fun! She was beaming the whole week before as she looked forward to the second official party she's ever celebrated.
We love our little Kinley girl! Here are the reasons why...
1. She always has a smile on her face.
2. She always jumps in and helps with whatever needs to be done.
3. She's not a complainer.
4. She loves to be silly and to make us laugh (rapping is the most recent source of fun- "boom, chick, boom, chick, a wicka-wicka-wicka-wicka WORD") complete with "rapping arms" and sideways ball cap...
5. She loves to dress up and has particular style beyond her sisters and mom.
6. She's sensitive, sweet, thoughtful, helpful, and a ball of fun!

Home Run Boy
After a discouraging start to baseball season this year, Reilly had the hit of his life! He hit an in park home run that went to the fence, with two other runners on base. He was beaming, and we are so thankful for the encouragement it brought to him! He received the game ball last night which was a great capper to the evening. We are so proud of Reilly!!

Holiness
Well, the Lord is definitely working in mysterious ways in my life these days... I had a great conversation with my dad yesterday on the phone, then was awoken last night in the middle of the night (by the Lord, no doubt, but not in the "Samuel" way :). I was awoken by the pain in my back from pregnancy and was unable to get back to sleep even when the pain had subsided (this is a prayer request!). Remembering that I had become slack in my reading of "Holiness" (by J.C. Ryle), I decided by the Lord's prompting to read the next chapter, chapter 19, entitled "Wants of the Times". Basically, Ryle is addressing the issues Christianity was facing at that particular time (1879), which could certainly be said of our times as well, minus the whole popery issue which was much more relevant in his time (in many ways) than in ours. I was bursting at the seams over what I read, and wanted to post it all on the blog, but Kurt encouraged me to pace it and post bits and pieces. You can certainly pick up the book on your own and I KNOW you will be blessed beyond belief. I'm going to try to post points from this section over the next week or two, so as to be brief in each entry. Okay, sort of brief. Blog hoppers aren't keen on excessively long posts, so I apologize. If you've made it this far, I hope your curiosity is peaked and you'll read on so you too can be blessed. And now, presenting: the man, J.C. Ryle...
"...the times require at our hands distinct and decided views of Christian doctrine.
I cannot withhold my conviction that the professing church of the nineteenth century is as much damaged by laxity and indistinctness about matters of doctrine within as it is by sceptics and unbelievers without. Myriads of professing Christians nowadays seem utterly unable to distinguish things that differ. Like people afflicted with colour blindness, they are incapable of discerning what is true and what is false, what is sound and what is unsound. If a preacher of religion is only clever and eloquent and earnest, they appear to think he is all right, however strange and heterogeneous his sermons may be. They are destitute of spiritual sense, apparently, and cannot detect error. Popery or Protestantism, an atonement or no atonement, a personal Holy Ghost or no Holy Ghost, future punishment or no future punishment, high church or low church or broad church, Trinitarianism, Arianism, or Unitarianism, nothing comes amiss to them: they can swallow all, if they cannot digest it! Carried away by a fancied liberality and charity, they seem to think everybody is right and nobody is wrong, every clergyman is sound and none are unsound, everybody is going to be saved and nobody is going to be lost. Their religion is made up of negatives; and the only positive thing about them is that they dislike distinctness, and think all extreme and decided and positive views are very naughty and very wrong!" (Holiness, J.C. Ryle, page 354)
Can I just tell you that the very next line is the most potent and striking phrase of all, but I had to stop somewhere? I will try my best to post that tomorrow.
Anyway, don't you think this describes the state of Christianity in most places today? I am struck in many ways by this reading, but my heart is overflowing as I'm sure many of your hearts are too. I am overflowing with gratitude to the Lord for the distinctness that I find at my church, Grace Community. My pastor has paved the way for many men to be educated in the Word of God so as to be distinct in their doctrine. We can understand the Word of God as the mysteries therein are explained clearly to us who do have the Holy Ghost in us! John MacArthur has stood firmly on the Scriptures, studying so as to understand and be convinced of certain doctrines, and then boldly going where few men will go- saying it out loud to his whole church and explaining clearly what it says! I have found great comfort in the certainty and veracity and plain old truth that is expounded from God's Word, and am grateful for my pastor's faithfulness to uphold it unwaveringly before his congregation, giving us great hope, courage, and confidence to stand tall on the Word of God, and giving us the strength by that preaching to not be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine that would threaten to shake the ground beneath us. Praise the Lord!

Recent Events...
I've been slacking... so here are a couple of posts with pictures. They are a little random and out of order, but I'll explain. The first one is the Boo just being the Boo. She loves the camera, and immediately puts on that sparkly smile as soon as she sees it... this was taken at a wedding Kurt performed. The second picture is Kinley at Reilly's opening day of baseball, just being Kinlers! I love this hat on her. The next one is the girly girls at that wedding, followed by the wedding event itself. This picture cracked me up. I really had to ask Kurt if he was standing on something up there in front! No, my husband just stands head and shoulders above the rest, both literally and figuratively speaking... The last pic is another of our precious Macy-Boo, as she mischievously stole another little girls nail polish out of her purse and began painting her toes. (Notice I said her toes, not merely her toe-nails...)
More Recent Events...
I'm a little behind posting "Gebhards'" events pictures, but here we go. The top picture is of Reilly with his good friend Jenson on opening day of baseball (last Saturday). Reilly and Jenson are in the same class at school together, and love to get together and be silly. I would have posted a picture of Reilly with grandma and grandpa who were also there, but I still don't know how to turn pictures from horizontal to vertical. I'm still that computer illiterate. Next is a picture of Kurt when he surprised Reilly and showed up at the Ronald Reagan Library during Reilly's school field trip there. They had lots of fun. The last one is from today, my all-out baking day. I really, truly, honestly had to bake today. I think it would have been a little tacky to send store bought goods with Kurt to the elders' meeting tonight. I remember as a little girl LOVING to lick the beaters from when my mom made cake. I can't deprive the little ones.

Reillyism
Core Group- n. a group of four to five same-gender Christians within the Foundry who meet together with a leader once a week for spiritual encouragement, accountability, and fellowship
So we made our normal donut stop Sunday morning and the kids were happily eating their chocolate glazed in the back seat when Reilly pipes in with,
"Mom, thanks SO much for the donuts!" (I'm the one who runs in and picks them up.)
"No problem Reilly, but you really should thank dad. He is the one who makes the money so that we can buy things like donuts."
"But mom, you make money too."
"Oh, I do? How do you think I make money?"
"Well," (slight pause with thought) "you lead a core group."
Kurt and I looked at each other and cracked up. For one, I do not lead a core group. I haven't led a core group in years. Secondly, who knew there was such great money in leading a core group? Maybe I should consider a second career...

Busyness
Yesterday was quite a day! Here was the schedule.
9:30 Shea and Kinley have a friend's birthday party
10 a.m. Reilly's last basketball game
10 a.m. Camdyn has a friend's birthday party
10:30 Kurt has a wedding rehearsal in Simi (30 minutes away)
1:30 Reilly's baseball practice
How would you manage this? It was a little crazy for us, but we managed to fit it all in! The funny thing was that after I dropped off the big girls, I took Cam to her party. We showed up to find the birthday girl in sweats, and no other kids there....hmmmmm..... I stood there a little puzzled, and then the mom informed me that the party was last week! I'll blame it on the pregnancy. She graciously accepted responsibility saying she must have miscommunicated, BUT I was the only lame-o mom that didn't figure it out!! I overruled her and took the blame.
I know that this is just a taste of what's to come once the other kids are involved in more activities and we have to juggle more things... Thankfully we had a great day and the kids had lots of fun.
We are soooo looking forward to hearing Fernando Ortega tonight at church! He blesses my days with his soothing music (in the midst of the noise!) and ministers to my kidlets at night as they're going to sleep (with his amazing hymns!) Macy loves "Nando". Reilly is excited to see someone famous, expanding his exposure to Third Day (his favorite) AND Fernando Ortega.
